Dr. Mary Brittain Blankenship is the founder of Spruce MD. She is a board certified Internal Medicine and Integrative Medicine physician. Dr. Blankenship’s passion for Integrative Medicine stems from a desire to provide medical care that is proactive rather than reactive, with a focus on lifestyle changes to reverse chronic disease.
Dr. Blankenship completed medical school at the University of South Alabama and trained in Internal Medicine at the University of Utah. She completed a two year fellowship in Integrative Medicine through the Academy of Integrative Health and Medicine and was the first board certified Integrative Medicine physician in the Upstate. She has experience in both hospital medicine and cardiovascular inpatient medicine. She also has expertise in utilizing technology to improve the delivery of medical care.
Spruce MD allows Dr. Blankenship the necessary time to provide care and education, enabling patients to make impactful changes in their health. She has clinical expertise in gut health, hormones, skin issues, and chronic disease management and reversal (hypertension, diabetes, etc.).
For self-care, Dr. Blankenship enjoys running, road and mountain biking, yoga and traveling. She is an avid cook and voracious reader and can be found on weekends hanging with her husband and three kids.
Dr. Jeanne Shiffman is a board certified Family Medicine and Integrative Medicine physician. She has over 15 years experience practicing Integrative Medicine and focuses on forming caring and collaborative relationships with patients to improve health outcomes.
Dr. Shiffman completed medical school and residency training at Georgetown University. In addition, she is a Certified Functional Medicine Practitioner and a Certified Menopause Practitioner. Dr. Shiffman treats most medical issues and has clinical expertise in thyroid health, menopausal health, adolescent health, hormones, and fatigue.
Dr. Shiffman recently moved to the Upstate from the DC area and enjoys exploring her new city. During her time away from Spruce MD she enjoys rooting for Clemson, practicing yoga, and hanging out with her dogs, Eloise the pug and Clementine the English bulldog.
Katherine is a registered and licensed dietitian with over 25 years experience in nutrition counseling. In addition to her degree in Coordinated Dietetics, she has advanced training from the Kalish Institute and uses both lifestyle medicine and functional nutrition to develop patient centered treatment plans. Katherine is also a certified LEAP therapist (CLT) with expertise in developing anti-inflammatory diets to address medical conditions. Katherine believes that proper assessment and nutritional guidance can transform health and create vitality at any age.
Katherine enjoys all things outdoors including hiking, kayaking and gardening. She loves spending time with her three sons on Lake Jocassee and is also an ardent reader.
Carrie Savaia is a board certified Health and Wellness Coach. She received her training through the Institute for Integrated Nutrition. Carrie has previously worked with corporate clients for the brand Fitbit and also has extensive experience working with autoimmune disease patients.
Having battled health challenges since childhood, she took her personal health into her own hands and navigated the world of health and wellness from a holistic lens. As she worked on healing her own body, she learned about her passion for helping others do the same. Carrie has worked with hundreds of individuals to unpack their confusing health struggles and develop long lasting lifestyle changes to benefit their health and well being long term. By utilizing motivational interviewing techniques, she encourages clients to make empowered decisions about their health. When Carrie isn’t working, she is usually in the woods hiking, practicing yoga, and spending time with her family.
Rebecca is one of Spruce MD’s Patient Coordinators. Originally from the Upstate of South Carolina, she hopped around for her husband’s job to Nashville, Austin, and Chicago before eventually landing back in Greenville. She is the go-to for questions about how care at Spruce MD works, billing and supplement purchases. Rebecca enjoys the beach, live concerts, and spending time with her husband and two kids.
